Personal opinion: nice beefy tenor sound, keywork is just right, not too light or heavy, plays well as is, but if you're thinking of touring with it, it may require new pads, this is reflected in the price. Pads are old but still closing well, rolled tone holes, original metal neck plug, what looks like the original mouthpiece and ligature, original box case has most of the covering removed, so really, good for shipping (although heavy). Great build quality too, I've been playing this quite a bit! Both these altos are tremendous value!ģ) Hohner President Tenor: a great tenor from the 50s (at least by the info I could find on the web), clear lacquer is probably at (conservatively) 90%, cannot find a dent or a repair anywhere. Personal view: another really good alto, I was extremely skeptical, but as the alto above, this sounds great (I'd love to try the equivalent tenor!) and and has some nice little details (like the little ring above the neck tenon, a la Selmer Reference). Personal view: I was amazed at the quality of this horn, really well put together, headless point screws, perfect lacquer, but what really staggered me was the sound, nice and round as I like an alto and the top end much easier (and not as thin) than the equivalent TJ model (Classic), to me it sounds better than the YAS275.Ģ) Windcraft Alto WAS100 (by Dawkes): as the Sakkusu above, this too has been hardly played! Clear lacquer, complete of case, sling, WIndcraft mouthpiece and new reeds. So a complete package for a starter, needs absolutely no work. PM me.1) Sakkusu Alto (by sax.co.uk): clear lacquer, older model with black pearls, hardly used (it is actually as new!), includes Yamaha mouthpiece, sling, a couple of new reeds and case (this also nearly new).

If you want to sell me the Hohner, I will buy it from you for a few hundred, plus shipping. (And compared to a nice Max-made Hohner.they play and sound like fookin' sh#t.) You can get a used one for about $450 Alto or $700 Tenor, or so. I hear something like this, and my immediate thought is: "then he has no need of your business, is quite busy enough, doesn't know you, and isn't likely to come up with a reasonable estimate"Ī 'New Student Model Yamaha" costs about $1300 for an alto.$1700 for a Tenor. " would be looked at by most people as a rave.

"all the pro brass and woodwind players use this guy. Listed: October 26th, 2012 12:19 PM: Description: Made in German- a rare find Hohner President Tenor Saxophone made by Max kielworth. within an hour or so drive) it would be worth your effort to take it to them. Hohner President Tenor Saxophone with Hard case and accessories. If there are any other techs in your vicinity (i.e. If, while doing that, the tech cares to replace maybe about a half-dozen pads and do a decent regulation, then all in all it should run maybe $500 or so. So one has to unsolder the brace at both places, remove the dents from the tube and bell, and resolder the brace back on. Basically the bellbrace got pushed into the body tube. I have been quite impressed by the ones which have come thru here.Īround here that repair might cost $300. A nice Silverplate alto just ended on eFlay today. You could go with the edgiest mouthpiece and edgiest resos you can find, and it's still gonna be a generally dark-sounding horn, IMHO.Īnyway, count me in as a fan.

I wouldn't say they punch like a 10M, Buescher, King, Martin, Kohlert.but then again, the beauty of the Keilwerth horns is their beautiful, lyrical tone with that great dark bottom. a lacquer Hohner which appears to be a President but is only engraved "Hohner". I agree, ergos are fine, although I feel all Keilwerth vintage horns have good ergos, IMHO. I have a lacquer Alto for sale which bafflingly has been here over a year.cannot understand it because it's a beauty and the tone is fantastic. A silverplate Tenor to another SOTW member which I was very sorry to see go because it played like silk. Max Keilwerth built some very good horns.
